Across the nation and the world
People gather at tables today
Sharing feasts of Thanksgiving
Families, friends, colleagues and foes
Focused on the common deed
To give thanks to whom we pray
Prayers arise in many forms
Human hearts poured out upon
Tablecloths like fine red wine
Heavy and strained in these times
When mankind is posed to fight
Peace a fleeting dove
Humbled, weighted low we lay
Our troubles, wants and needs
Before their alters painted gold
When to our neighbors we are cold
Forgotten, lost, uninvited souls
Who shiver hungry while alone
May our eyes, ears and hearts
Embrace those suffering and cold
Let compassion these reclaim
And peaceful days regain
For we are all the same
Yes, we are all the same
