- ONE NIGHT THE MOONIn Poetry·October 11, 2023One night the moon shone down on me, As I sat upon the sand at water's edge. She asked, for the Moon is a lady, "Why do you sit here all alone?" I replied, "I love someone very far away." "Then tell her," the Moon said, gently. I shook my head, as a cloud crossed The sky, and the face, of the caring moon. "I cannot," said I, head bowed. "Duty binds me here too far away." A chill wind crossed the water, And, I shivered, with cold and loss. Warm Moon spoke, "My light will speak for you. i will shine down outside her home each night, With poems and messages of love you send, So, she, seeing me, will think of you." I asked, "How will she ever know, that, Your silver beams are messages of love, Sent by a humble poet?" I asked in doubtr. Moon smiled brightly at my lack of faith. "She will know," sweet Moon replied, "She already knows my beams are love. until now she did not know from whom." One night the Moon, said this to me. • Donovan Baldwin124

- SINS COMMITTED IN INNOCENCEIn Poetry·August 11, 2023Your sadness touches me, As does your laughter And your passion, When you allow it To be seen. Touch me with all The feelings you have, Even when you must Scream and cry, and, Beat upon my chest, At injustice or sorrow. Share your shame, for, With me, you will be absolved, For I have seen your humanity, And know your sins are all Committed in innocence. Donovan Baldwin127
- MY NEXT GOAL IS DOABLEIn Advice and Articles·August 11, 2023Many things in life are hard. Often the contemplation of them is the hardest part. Little trick I learned in the Army - No matter how long the march, the run, the days in the field, all I had to do was take that next step, make it through the next five minutes. If I looked at the miles and hours remaining, I was daunted, overwhelmed, but, damn right I could do one more minute, another few steps, make it to that tree. That was my task at hand. Not the miles, not the days, but the inches, feet, minutes... get to that dead tree, that's all I had to do, and then I could figure out where to go from there. Set another goal... a few feet, a few minutes, a few steps farther down the trail. Seventy-eight years old, still walking (running occasionally), and still sometimes feeling daunted by the whole trek... but, I CAN do a few more feet, another minute, maybe five minutes. THAT, I can do. No sweat, Sarge. I've got this. Waiting for some idiot to yell out, "More PT, sergeant!!!" Oh, wait! I became the sergeant. Donovan Baldwin124

- YOU, ME, AND THE MOON - AND OTHER POEMSIn Poetry·August 20, 2023You, me, and the moon. Our ménage à trois will end Ecstatically. ----- As you cross the room, A swaying sensuous storm, You sweep me away. ----- Entwined, embracing, Torn by warring love and lust, Giving each fair share. ----- Close as we can be, As if sun or wind on skin, Let us touch with love. ----- Ignore the mirror, It sees you not as I do. My heart sees the truth. ----- Seated beauty waits, He treats her cavalierly, She deserves better. ----- One last nervous step, Close the night outside and turn, Running to my arms. ----- How daring are you? When the storm howls in the night, Will you seek my arms? ----- If you laugh today, See yourself as beautiful, I smile with true joy. ----- Woman of beauty, My eyes see you as you are, Weeping in their joy. ----- Beside the ocean, Lovers walking hand in hand, Sharing sun and sea. ----- Each night, I muse, Anxiously awaiting the arrival Of you, my beloved, Stepping from the dark Into my heart and arms. I feel the pressure The warmth, The encircling possession Of your loving arms, And, in reverie, I hold you to me Until sleep overtakes me, And spirits you away. ----- Dove outside my door, Coos to his mate as I do, Hoping you hear me. ----- Too old for loving? That would be too old for life. Loving you is life. ----- Donovan Baldwin126
