In a recent post of his set of Facebook posts celebrating the 45th anniversary of Disada Productions, Peter Adamakos writes: “So what do you want to be when you grow up?” I was asked over and over when I was very young. What I wanted to be was a live-action and animation film maker. “But what do you REALLY want to be?” was the usual reaction. I learned to reply “a lawyer” as that seemed to satisfy adults. Isn’t it sad that Peter felt he had give an answer other than what he wanted to do, to be a film-maker, to be an artist? Further, isn’t it wonderful that he took the risk of trying his hand at being a film-maker and succeeding? True, the odds are stacked against a film-maker or any artist making it. Think of all those who don’t make it and those who do not bother trying. How many potentially great artists have not tried their hand at their art? How much art have we never seen, heard or read? A tragedy? ArtsKeeper will make it less necessary for a child to hide that he wants to be an artist when he grows up.
